The first trip to the dentist is a big milestone in your little one’s life, and yours! Whether they are a shy toddler or a confident preschooler, we know this visit sets the tone for their future health.
Here at Children’s Dentistry, we don’t just clean teeth; we build trust. Our goal is to make sure your child leaves with a smile that’s healthy and an experience that felt like a high-five.
New Patient forms will be texted to you before you arrive, so you can focus on your child, not the paperwork.
The “Happy Visit”
We recommend bringing your child in by their first birthday (or within 6 months of their first tooth). Think of this as the “Happy Visit.” It isn’t about a rigorous cleaning; it’s about curiosity. We want your child to see the dental chair as a fun experience, not a scary place.
Start at Home
You are our best teammate! Before you arrive, talk to your child about the dentist using positive, exciting words. Tell them we are going to “count their teeth” and “see how strong they are.” You bring the excitement, and we will handle the rest!
Beyond Our Doors
From the moment you arrive, your child is the VIP. Our office is designed to be a warm and fun-filled space, with friendly faces. We give them time to look around, acclimate to the sights and sounds, and realize that this is a safe place built just for them. Toys included.
Share The Experience
Before we take a closer look, we tell your child what we are going to do in simple, collaborative words. We show them the tool, it doesn’t hurt, and they can touch it. Only then do we do the assessment. This removes the fear of the unknown.
During The Visit
You’re always welcome in the treatment area. Your presence is a huge comfort! We just ask that you be a “silent cheerleader”, allowing Dr. Nelson and the team to be the main voice. We’ll build trust, a healthy smile, and a happy experience you can congratulate them on later.
The Gentle Exam
For the first visit, we keep it light. We’ll gently examine their teeth and gums, check for proper development, and maybe do a quick polish if they are ready. If they aren’t? That’s okay, too. We never force a procedure. We move at their pace and keep them smiling.
